Sorry for the delay...

We have had a heck of a week preparing for the apocalypse. Had a great night breaking last night with Mojobreak. 2012 Absolute Football Case Break and I had the Baltimore Ravens. Bernard Pierce Rookie Jersey Auto /49, Bernard Pierce War Room Rookie Prime Signatures Jersey /25, and a Ray Rice Tools of the Trade Jersey Auto Prime Black /5. Then I had a nice little gem from 2012 Bowman Sterling Baseball, Billy Hamilton Auto, not bad additions to the collection! Will post pics when the mail day arrives!

When you're hot, you're hot!

As you see in the previous post, Purple Rain, we had a big hit, so why stop there?  Towards the end of the show, one of the dealers was carrying around a box of 2012 Panini Prizm Basketball offering it up for $80.  Knowing that it sells for around $100 I hopped on that deal.  A few of the youngsters hanging around the show urged me to pop the box right there, so I did.  Within the first couple of packs, lightning struck again in the form of a Blake Griffin Refractor Autograph numbered to 25, sweet. I continued popping packs when one of the kids said "Look at him, he's not even excited about pulliing that Griffin!" I was excited, but after what I had already pulled, this was just okay, at least I was going to get my money back. And as I'm writing this, an offer just came in for this card and tomorrow, it will be on it's way to it's new owners.  I'm sure they will be excited when the receive it in the next few days.

Purple Rain!

This is actually the second Purple Refractor Autograph we've pulled in the last two months. The first was Yu Darvish. Halfway through a box of 2012 Bowman Draft Picks and Prospects Baseball we made it rain! A Bryce Harper Rookie Autograph Purple Refractor, on card, and not a redemption! Sweet!

2011/12 Exquisite Basketball Box Break Part 2

Yep, we did another box break of this product with Mojobreak.com and guess what? #2 pick again, arrrggghh! Oh well, it could have been worse.  The box was popping right from the get go.  First card out of the box was a booklet card, Alonzo Mourning/Tim Hardaway Dual Logo Patch Autograph Card 46/50 with Georgetown and UTEP patches.  It also has a Miami Heat basketball connection being in South Florida.  The rest of the box started to come out with a base card, Danny Manning and then a Jerry West Championship Bling autograph.  Next up, BOOM, a Lebron James Personal Touch Autograph, Favorite Car, autographed and with Bentley written on the bottom, numbered to 20, sweet.  The next card, a Corey Joseph autograph rookie, nice, and then the final hit, a DeMarcus Cousins Dimensions Shadowbox autograph rookie, sweet. Not a bad box, but with the #2 pick, I had a decision to make.   I went with my gut, and some local love, and picked the Mourning/Hardaway Booklet Dual Patch Autographs /50. So that's my little taste of Exquisite for the year. With a price hovering around $850, I doubt I will be doing any more of this product.

2011/12 Exquisite Basketball Box Break

Well I had the opportunity to get a piece of an exclusive, or should I say Exquisite box break on Mojobreak.com the other night.  Six spots, with the sixth getting a base card and a box of 2012/13 Prestige Basketball as a consolation.  I had to jump on it.  With a product stuffed full of Jordan Autos and limited edition patches, duals, triples, and quads, as well as this years rookies, the only worry is what pick would I get.  Well, as fate would have it, I got pick #2.  Not bad, but it's not #1.  As they broke the box, the Hakeen Olajuwon base card #'d to 99 was on it's way to #6 already.  Next up, a Gail Goodrich Championship Bling On Card Auto #'d 99, nice. Card #3, BOOM, Michael Jordan/Magic Johnson Dual Auto On Card #'d 20, okay, so I'm hoping this one slips to #2, probably not.  Card #4 It's a Booklet, Bill Walton/Gail Goodrich UCLA Logo Patch Black Dual Auto On Card 33/50, sweet, but not and MJ/MJ dual auto!  Card #5 Nolan Smith Rookie Auto On Card #'d 199, nice, a Duke-y. Card #6  Endorsements Shadowbox Auto Mark A. Jackson inscribed "God Bless U" On Card Auto, very nice.  Okay, so i know that MJ/MJ is not coming my way, so i picked the nest best value in my opinion, the Booklet, Bill Walton/Gail Goodrich UCLA Logo Patch Black Dual Auto On Card 33/50.  Stay tuned, because I did another one of these, a few days later, wait till you see what happened there.

2012 Topps Update Jumbo Box Break

Good lord there's a lot of cards in this box.  Almost 500 base cards and inserts galore. Ten of the fattest packs known to mankind, okay, I'm going a bit overboard.  After all is said and done, you should end up with a complete 330 card base set and a "few" duplicates.  Now to the hits.  You get a ton of Gold parallels, or one of the other colored parallels, one Golden Giveaway card, the occasional "App" card for Topps Pennant, the Gold Moments Parallel cards are one per pack as well, and to finish it out, you get a Golden Moments card or parallel.  Oh, I almost forgot about the mini cards, because they almost always slip out and onto the floor.  And then there's an occasional hit.  My first pack was thick and heavy, so I tore into it and saw a thick beast in the middle.  As I slid it into view, I saw "The Hawk" Andre Dawson and a ring for his 1977 Rookie of the Year Award, sweet, and heavy!  If you haven't seen these cards they are nice. A couple of packs later the Oakland A's Tom Milone autograph showed up, nice!  Second to the last pack, a Robinson Cano All Star Workout Jersey card, yes! Overall not a bad box.  My one knock about this product came when I started sorting the cards.  WTF! Topps decided that uniformity of the cards numbers wasn't neccesary, and they are all different sizes and were confusing as heck.  It wasn't because a name was too long, or it was a vertical or horizontal layout, someone just randomly sized these things just to mess with my eyes.  Hope you enjoyed the break and check us out at the Key West Card Show, October 20, 2012, Lexington Hotel, 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

Andre the Giant!

Wow, what a game! The Dolphins/Cardinals played an overtime thriller that brought out the best on both offenses.  The rookie QB breaking Dan Marino's passing mark in a game, Brian Hartline catching just about everything, and Andre Roberts giving Larry Fitz a little frindly competition.  I'm sure Andre has the benefit of Larry Fitz lining up next to him or on the oppsoite side and drawing the double team, but he still had some nice grabs, including the game tying out route.  Looks like it was Dre Day!

2012 Triple Threads Baseball Box Break and More!

I just had to pop on a box of 2012 Topps Triple Threads Baseball. After watching a couple of breaks and see some of the hot cards being pulled, I reached out to Marty's Sportscard Exchange Superstore and got me a box along with a couple of boxes of 2012 Leaf History of Baseball Cut Signature Edition and a box of 2012 Leaf Valiant Football.  I busted the football box first and scored a few cool rookie autographs, all on card.  Chandler Jones, Brian Quick, Kendall Wright #'d 99, and Jarius Wright #'d 99.  The Leaf Baseball was next, hitting a couple of cuts that I had to Google but with interesting results.  I pulled a Bill Rigney "Best Wishes" inscribed cut, and an Earl "Sparky" Adams cut signature.  Rigney was an All Star in 1948 and a manager later on in his career.  "Sparky" played on the winning team in the 1931 World Series with the Cardinals. Now to the big dog.  I busted the Triple Threads two pack box and ripped into the first pack.  Not bad, Rickey Henderson, Roberto Clemente, and Tom Seaver.  Now to the hit, BOOM, James Shields "Big Game James" Triple Relic Autograph 6/9, sweet but we're not done.  Next up, BOOM, a Justin Verlander Unity Relic Jersey 9/9, sweet.  The last two cards are the parallels, a Cliff Lee /99, and Joe Mauer /625.  Okay, on to pack 2. Ripped into that and there's Prince Fielder, Don Mattingly, and Cal Ripken Jr, now for the hit, or should I say No Hitter, King Felix Hernandez "19-5 217 2.49 IN 2009" Triple Relic 17/18, nice, but what's next? How about your 1st win, Henderson Alvarez Unity Autograph Relic 2 Color Patch 10/10. Yeah! So not a bad day at the table. Hope you enjoyed the break, check out the store for some great deals on these cards and more.

Red Hot Red Zone

At a recent card show, I traded away one of my crown jewels for cash and cards.  Some would dispute what I got in trade as being a good or bad deal, either way, I got a Red Hot card. The trade was a Michael Jordan Autograph card, for cash and cards, and one of the cards I got in the trade was a 2011 Topps Cam Newton Red Zone Red Ink Rookie Autograph 046/100.  This thing is sweet, red ink, rookie auto, serial numbered, and it does help that Cam Newton just tore it up this week.  Sweet, running, passing, this guy can do it all.  No sophmore slump for this guy.

Lightning Strikes Twice!

I recently purchased a box break for my nephew for helping me out.  A four box Panini Prime Hockey break.  I pick the Tampa Bay Lightning for him, his favorite team, and boy did they light the lamp.  We got two hits, the same rookie, the same card, both numbered to 50. We hit on two Prime Time Rookies Brett Connolly Autograph Jersey Cards, numbered 18/50 and 26/50.  The Lightning definitely struck twice on this break.

The Bryce is Right!

After a long, successful day at the Key West Card Show, we decided to bust a box of 2012 Topps Chrome Baseball as part of the closing ceremony.  I popped it open and shared the four stacks of packs with Ashlyn, Steve, and my nephew Kevin Michael.  Everyone started popping and I was barely into my first pack when my Kevin Michael held out a redemption card as well as an autograph card.  The auto was Liam Hendriks, the redemption was a Bryce Harper Autograph Rookie Variation.  Boom, two in the same pack, and we got the HARPAH just like the Dish commercial. Wow, so we kept popping, ending up with four autos, two regular, one sepia, and the HARPAH! What a nice end to a great day.  I'm glad we got to share it with some special friends and family.

Wieners and The Wall

You gotta love the 2012 Allen & Ginter cards bringing back memories of things past and present.  My wife bought me a blaster box of AG from a recent visit to the mainland and with came a couple of special cards.  The first on was a Historical Turning Points "The Fall of the Berlin Wall" card which reminded me of my Army years spent in Germany during this historic time.  I was stationed in Baumholder, Germany, "The Rock" to most, for five years, from 1986-88 and again from 1989-92.  The second card is a mini from the Mans Best Friend set of the Dachshund. Being the owner of two long haired wieners, I have grown to love the low riding, carpet sharks in all their different shapes and sizes.  Although I'm not a big AG fan, today, they made me smile and remember how much I love Germany!

Bronco Break Mojo

Today I received my booty from Mojobreak.com from a recent 2012 Topps Finest Football Case Break.  It was done random style and I got the Denver Broncos. Well I hit big on the case with several base and rookies, as well as several refractors, and then the big dogs, two Peyton Manning Refractors, one Red #'d to 50, and one Gold #'d to 25.  I also hit on a Ronnie Hillman Rookie Patch Auto #'d to 50, featuring a three color patch.  If you've never tried a box break, Mojobreak.com does it right.  Check them out, great deals, free shipping, and they do it live on BlogTV.com.

Hurricanes and Sports Cards!

Let me tell you what happens to a couple hundred thousand pieces of cardboard when they are submerged in water.  Almost 7 years ago, during Hurricane Wilma, I experienced the worst conditions I ever have in all my years of living in Key West.  Hurricane Wilma was a Catergory 3 storm with sustained winds up to 120 mph, but it was the storm surge and the direction in which she came, that caused the most damage.  6-8 feet of storm surge swept across the lower keys and flooded a large majority of the homes and properties in the area.  Our house, a ground level duplex, had about 25 inches of water inside, with about 48 inches outside, just about to the top of our chain link fence.  In the closet of my computer room was the majority of my 12 year collection, stacked in shoe boxes ranging from 2-5 row, well over 150,000 cards soaked and destroyed, roughly 32 boxes.  I really don't know what I lost because I never looked in the boxes, to painful, but what hurt the most was when the flood insurance adjusted said '"You know you don't have contents?" What, we don't have contents, what?  How do you have flood insurance and not have the contents covered? Kind of like have fire insurance and not having contents covered.  Lesson learned, the hard way, but the pain wasn't done yet. After lugging all these cards out and putting the in a pile for trash pickup, several hundred cards were spilled and left on the grond by the garbage men.  A daily reminder of the past.  A friend of mine actually salvaged a few cards, and a crushed can of Pinacle Inside Football, unopened. I still have those cards and can, as well as the memories of cards lost.  As we prepare for tomorrow, Hurricane Isaac is bearing down on the Florida Keys, and expected to make landfall late Sunday night.  I hope that Isaac doesn't collect cards like his older sibling Wilma, that's a trade I can't make or take again. Take care, stay safe, and keep dry.

Carpal Tunnel Rookies

Well I had the pleasure of participating in and watching an 8 box case break of some 2012 Topps Finest Football at Mojobreak.com.  It was random style and I was fortunate enough to get the Denver Broncos.  Although nothing earth shattering was pulled, the one rookie patch auto per box became the evidence that card companies are getting their money's worth out of these guys when it comes to signing cards.  Rookie autos numbered to 13-1500, ridiculous.  These young men are gonna get carpal tunnel syndrome before they can sign a contract.  They probably hate Sharpies now, and wouldn't doubt that they growl at anyone asking for some signage. Come on card companies, getting an autograph should be exciting not bewildering.

Pujols Mystery Patch?

I pulled this card from the 2007 Topps Triple Threads Baseball a few years ago and have been puzzled by a piece of it ever since.  I know it's a triple relic, and two of the pieces are jersey and bat, but the third piece is a black, patch like thingy, with red paint or something.  I have looked at a variety of different uniforms the Cardinals wear and have worn and I can't seem to figure it out.  Any help?  Of course Topps leaves it wide open and won't specify which part or where it came from.

Are you ready for some football?

Now that the Olympics are over, no more Synchronized Diving, Field Hockey, Rowing, or Badminton, how are we gonna survive?  Thank goodness it's almost football season.  These preseason games are so hard to watch, and with the "scab" refs, how hard is it to figure out how far 15 yards is?  It will be interesting to see Peyton in Denver, the two head Quarterback monster in New York, and how 'bout them Seahawks?  Yeah, can't wait to see what Pete Carroll has up his sleeve this year.  Oh well, at least I know what I will be doing on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday nights for the next couple of months.

Dollar Store Glossy RG3

Well today while out with the Boss paring down the Honey-Do list, we stopped by the Dollar Store for a few items.  While waiting in line I spotted some 2012 Score Football, yes, what a great product, making it's way to the Dollar Tree in it's first week.  I know that paying a buck for a pack of this wobbly table leveler is probably too much, but I couldn't resist.  I scooped up 6 packs and waited my fate.  I started popping these gems and quickly realized the every pack gumbo of one rookie and one glossy along with a wide variety of the 400 player base card veteran checklist.  About the third pack in, I hit some dirt, not paydirt, just some dirt, a RG3 Glossy rookie, okay, now I'm at least satisfied with my meger investment.

Here are the Rookies including the RG3 Glossy:

Here are the Glossy Parallels:
